The idea is based on the fact that most of the cutting energy is converted into heat, which is expected to be carried away quickly by the chips, while the heat transferred to the cutting tool and the workpiece is minimized. In this way, it is advantageous to extend the life of the cutting tool and reduce the thermal expansion of the workpiece. In high-speed hobbing, even under ideal conditions, a small amount of cutting heat is absorbed by the cutting tool.
